Studies have often highlighted the benefits of actively practicing gratitude. Reflecting on the things – big or small – we are grateful for and the simple act of writing them down will help us establish the habit of paying attention to gratitude-inspiring events. By journalling about an uplifting event, person or thought in our life, we allow ourselves to enjoy the positive emotions that come with it. Because no matter how difficult life can sometimes feel, there’s always something to be grateful for.
So, to get into gratitude journalling, set aside 15 minutes a few times a week just for you. While there is no right way to do it, write with intention and try to be as specific as possible, going for depth over breadth. To help you get started, here are 10 gratitude journalling prompts:
Write about a person in your life who you are especially grateful for, and why.
What foods or meals are you most grateful for?
Write about something you have learned this week.
List five parts of your body that you are grateful for, and why.
Describe a time in your life when you did something scary and succeeded.
What qualities do you love about yourself? Why?
Write about your favourite way to make someone happy.
What do you find yourself taking for granted?
Who do you love?
What places are you grateful for?
