My name is Michelle Franklin and I’m the author of the Haanta Series: an ongoing, online romantic fantasy series recently published by Red Willow Press. I do have other pursuits, such as singing and being a perpetual reader of classics, but my true passion lies in writing. I write anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 words a day, whether prose or dialogue or the outline of a new book. In the past year, I have written twenty-one books, some of which are now being published.

I found my first Paperblanks journal in a local bookstore close to where I lived and went to university.  At the time, I wanted to keep my personal writing away from what I was assigned to write in my creative writing classes. When I saw the Embellished Manuscript journal with Mozart’s signature on it, I was instantly drawn to it. I’d never seen anything like it before. When I took it up, the weight and feel of it, the quality of the paper, and the magnetic folded clasp was what compelled me to buy it.  I was also taken by the durability of the binding and the quality of the parchment-like paper.

I filled this journal within a few weeks of purchasing it and instantly went to buy another just the same.  Since then,  I’ve collected numerous Paperblanks journals, which I use for my personal writing. Everything from character dialogues to novel outlines to stick-figure sketches fills the pages of these notebooks.

Out of the numerous Paperblanks I own, my favorite design (so far) is the Tiffany Leaded Glasswith the hand-stitched binding. I enjoy looking at it so much that at times I find it difficult to write in it; it’s so lovely that I want to keep it exactly as it is.

Our Artist Series features snapshots of the creative people who use our journals. From all parts of the world, and all walks of life, we celebrate the infinite number of ways in which creativity can be expressed. If you would like to have your story featured, email apps@hartleyandmarks.com.

  1. Even with this original post being from 5 years ago, I’m with Michelle. The “Tiffany Leaded Glass” series was soooo beautiful, and perfectly executed — the styling, stitching, sizing — all were exactly right.
I hope this series might have a 2nd edition, it being 10 years later … if not the original images, maybe a complementary group of 2 or 4, so people could augment their existing pieces.
    Thank you!

    • Hi Shelley,

It is great to see some of our older designs (and blog posts!) continue to receive love. Tiffany Leaded Glass is one of our oldest and most treasured collections and the Coptic binding is truly something special. We will definitely pass along your feedback to our Design team.

      All the best,
      The Paperblanks Team
