With its longer days and abundant sunlight, summer can be the perfect season to boost your creativity. But if you are feeling you have hit a creative block, know that it is normal and you are not alone. Every creative mind can fall into a rut occasionally. There is no magic formula to move through periods of plateauing, but we’d like to share three tips that have worked for us in the past and might help you ignite the creative spark and make the best out of summer days.
1. Get Outside
Even if you feel you are not being productive, spending time outside is actually very good for creativity. Surrounding ourselves with nature can not only have a positive impact on our overall well-being and mental health, but it can also boost our spirits and our creativity. It helps us stay inspired, take visual notes and gather experiences and materials that can later help us create something special. Remember to stay hydrated and protected from the sun so you don’t feel overwhelmed and tired.
2. Try Something New
Creativity is often enhanced when we try something new, but it doesn’t have to be a big gesture. Experimenting with a new technique, putting together a moodboard for the project of your dreams or revisiting an old work using a new approach can all spark creativity. Even listening to an inspiring new podcast, discovering an independent magazine or sampling a new flavour of ice cream will bring unexpected experiences that can ignite ideas and help you feel stimulated again.
3. Let Go of Perfectionism
While a little bit of perfectionism can help you get better at what you do, it’s important that it doesn’t become an obstacle to getting things done. Create just for the sake of it because it brings you joy. Don’t worry about being perfect; focus on the process rather than the result. And if any feelings of insecurity or self-doubt arise, acknowledge them and then move on.
