Nina Katchadourian‘s Sorted Books project involves grouping clusters of books together so that the titles can be read in a sequence to reveal a new message. For example, the cluster of five books in the above image have been arranged so that the titles form a message that reads:
“I live in the future & here’s how it works people waste and want everything in pursuit of the unknown.”
It’s a fascinating and exceedingly clever use of books to create art!
Katchadourian has been creating these book clusters since 1993. Her process involves sorting through specialized book collections from private homes or public libraries and using the messages to reveal idiosyncrasies and inconsistencies about that particular space.
