Our Peek Inside… series takes a look inside peoples’ personal journals to celebrate their creativity and inspire others. If you have a project that could be featured message us at facebook@hartleyandmarks.com.

This month’s entry comes from Katelyn, a talented artist whose artwork and sketches (drawn in Paperblanks books, naturally) can regularly be found on her Instagram feed.

Find examples of her work, accompanied by insights into her methods, inspirations and goals, below:

I sketch my drawings in pencil. I only use Paper Mate Profile ink pens. Single strokes and shading with my pen and my index finger really bring a richness to my drawings.

Several of my drawings represent simply how I feel that day.  If I am happy, then my drawings reflect that, and so on.

Music gives me inspiration. When I listen to the music, I listen carefully to the words of the song. My goal is to put the sounds and words on paper as a visual art form.

Quotes from famous people [inspire me] … If I am able to express these words in my drawings for people to see… well hopefully I will be able to inspire someone else.

I have been working with a local teacher and have illustrated my first children’s book for her. We are in the process of getting the book published on an internal teachers resource site.

You can follow Katelyn’s work on Instagram with the username @himynamesgill.
