A tech blogger may be an unlikely cheerleader for the pen and paper, but that’s exactly what a blogger for the Detroit Free Press is doing in his latest column. Mark W. Smith admits that, despite spending “an embarrassing amount of time each day perched behind screens of all sizes” he’s realized “there’s still nothing quite like writing something down.

Smith says the column started out as a list of the best apps to help you stay on task. Task management and productivity apps represent one of the most competitive categories for smartphone devices. “It seems every week there’s a hot new app that promises to streamline our digital lives, linking things like to-do lists and calendars to help keep us focused.” But he ultimately had to admit that no interface can yet match the ease of the pen and paper. (Like we can disagree with that thought. ;))

We know our audience of writing journal and dayplanner users is hardly likely to disagree with Smith’s view — but we’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter anyway! Let us know in the comments section below!
