As the director of films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, Guillermo del Toro is known for bringing the strange creations of his own imagination to the big screen. But just how do these fantastical creatures go from the daydreams of a creative auteur to fully realised movie characters? Well, in 2013 Del Toro released a book called Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions that did a pretty great job of answering that question. As he explains in the video below, this book is a highly personal look into how he creates his stories through the sharing of decades of notes and sketches.
