Our Peek Inside… series takes a look inside peoples’ personal journals to celebrate their creativity and inspire others. Message us at apps@paperblanks.com if you have a project that you would like to be featured.

This month we asked the very talented Rebecca Blair of Rebecca Blair ART to give us a look inside one of her journals. She shared the following with us:

I use my journal (a Ventagilo Rosso) for current research, artwork and notes for university where I study graphic design. I really love the texture of the paper to both write and draw on.

I’ve always enjoyed creating pieces of graphic art with lots of detail and integrating text and image together to produce something new and different. I usually draw or write something everyday or so within my journal, experimenting with layout, scale, contrast and form. Most of my illustrations are very geometric and abstract but that is simply what I enjoy doing the most.

I’ve found working within one notebook very useful to the development to my art style. This is because of the consistent size limitations provided by the journal. I have to really think about what I’m doing to make my work effective.

I incorporate a lot of song lyrics into my work along with notes on any topic that I’m interested in at the time.

I especially love the work of London based illustrator Katie Scott. Her use of colour is beautiful and her attention to detail is so inspiring to me.

If you’re interested in seeing more of Rebecca’s work you can check out her Tumblr blog Rebecca Blair ART or follow her on Twitter with the username @Becka_Blair.
